Four chairs · Cut, colour, care

Hair built slowly, on your own timetable

We work in long appointments so colour can be layered gently and a cut can be shaped to how your hair actually falls — not how it looks for one afternoon.

Open
Tuesday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm. Thursday and Friday chairs run until 8.30pm for colour.
Consultations
Every new colour booking starts with a free 20-minute consultation, booked separately from the appointment.
Who it suits
Curly and coily textures, fine hair that needs volume, grown-out colour, and anyone starting over after a chop.

The studio

A small room, four chairs, and nobody rushing you out of one

Maple Loom is a single-room studio above a bakery on the north side of town. We keep the diary short on purpose: four chairs, one stylist to a client, and enough space between bookings that a consultation never gets squeezed into the first ten minutes of a cut.

The room is quiet by design. No television, no overlapping blow-dryers where we can help it, and a scalp-first wash station that most clients say is the part they actually remember. If you find salons overwhelming, ask for a first or last chair of the day and the room will be close to empty.

  • Quiet hoursThe first chair on Tuesday and the last chair on Saturday are kept low-noise, with dryers off where the service allows.
  • Scalp firstEvery wash begins with a scalp check. If we find irritation or build-up, we will change the products we planned to use and tell you why.
  • Patch testedColour clients are patch tested at the consultation, at least 48 hours before anything is mixed.

Price index

What things cost, and how long they take

Prices start from the figures below and are confirmed at consultation, because density, length and colour history change the time a service needs. Nothing is added to your bill on the day without being agreed first.

Long or very dense hair may need extra product and time; that is quoted before we start, never after. Cut prices include a finish, and colour prices include a rough-dry but not a styled finish — add a blow-dry if you want to leave with it set.

How a colour appointment runs

Four stages, so nothing on the day is a surprise

Most colour worries come from not knowing what happens next. This is the order we work in, every time, whether you are booking a single root tint or a staged correction over several months.

01

Consultation

Twenty minutes, free, on a different day. We look at your colour history, test a strand, and patch test behind the ear.

02

Plan and quote

You leave with a written plan: the stages, the time each one needs, and the price band. Staged work is mapped across visits.

03

Application

Colour is applied in sections and checked in daylight as it develops. We stop early if the hair tells us to stop early.

04

Cut and home care

A finishing cut, a bond treatment where needed, and a short walkthrough of how to wash it so the tone holds.

Ask for someone by name

Each chair keeps its own diary. If you are not sure who to ask for, leave the stylist field blank on your enquiry and we will match you to the right specialism.

Questions

Before you book

Do I really need a separate consultation for colour?
Yes, for anything beyond a gloss refresh. The patch test has to sit for at least 48 hours, and a strand test tells us how your hair behaves before we commit to a plan. The consultation is free and takes about twenty minutes.
Should I bring a photo?
Bring several, including one you dislike. Photos of what you don't want are often more useful than inspiration shots, and a range helps us separate the colour you like from the cut and the styling in the same image.
I have been using box colour. Can you fix it?
Usually, but rarely in one sitting. Box colour builds up unevenly on the mid-lengths, so correction is staged across two or three visits with care appointments in between. We will tell you honestly at consultation how far we can get and how long it will take.
My hair is fine and goes flat. What should I book?
Start with a precision cut and ask for a care appointment in the same enquiry. Most flatness is cutting weight and product build-up rather than a need for more product, and the home-care walkthrough covers how to wash fine hair so it keeps its lift.
Do you cut children's hair?
We cut from around age eight, booked into a quiet chair at the start of the day. For a first-ever haircut we would gently point you to a salon set up for very young children, who do it better than we can.
What happens if I am running late?
Tell us as soon as you know. Up to fifteen minutes we can usually absorb; beyond that we may need to shorten the service to protect the next client's booking, and for colour we will often reschedule rather than rush the processing time.
How do I move or cancel an appointment?
Reply to your confirmation email at least 48 hours before the chair. Inside 48 hours we will always try to fill the slot, and colour appointments longer than three hours ask for a deposit when they are rebooked.

Bring with you
Photos, the name of any colour you have used at home in the last year, and a note of anything your scalp reacts to.
Changes
